What is stereo?




There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Micro Seiki MA-707


Low mass type dynamic balance tonearm.
The MA-707 is a newly developed dynamic balance tonearm featuring superb tracking due to the light stylus force. There are few dynamic balance type tonearms in the market even though this type is said to be ideal. One reason is the precision required for the spring built into the dynamic balance system. The weak points are the difficulty of maintaining spring linearity at light stylus forces and loss of tension with the passage of time. The MA-707 uses a precision spring developed through strict selection of materials and high precision processing. These problems have been completely solved by the use of a torsion bar. Stylus force change is extremely linear from 0,3 to 3,0 grams, by 0,1 gram step. Tracking is extremely sensitive at low stylus forces, with high compliance type cartridges.

A dynamic balance system without inertial moment
The tonearm itself is perfectly balanced and stylus force is applied only through the tension of the spring. Because of this, there is no moment acting upward due to unevenness of the record surface as with the static balance type. In other words, whatever the condition of the record surface, the stylus force is constant. And there is almost no influence from the warp of record and eccentricity the turntable being out of level, etc.

Revox A 76


A76 Revox Builds the tuner of the future.
The conventional design concepts for tuners are not satisfactory any more if one wants to reach the optimum in freedom from distortion and signal interference. Therefore, Revox have tossed overboard traditional ideas and by designing the "third generation tuner" they have  a whole leap forward.
The approach  has been thoroughly professional and without compromise. The input section features "dual gate" field effect transistors and quadruple variable capacitor tuning, while the IF-strip consists of a passive Gauss Filter, followed by an amplifier which is made up entirely of integrated Circuits (bandwidth 5 MHz). delay-lines are employed for demodulation without deteriorating the five megahertz bandwidth. A76 khz oscillator runs phase-locked to the subcarrier and supplies  after binary scaling the switching frequency to the stereo demodulator. Supplementary circuits permit silent tuning and effect automatic stereo changeover, they triogger a visual signal in th ecase of multipath reception and provide for th eindication of signal strength, centre tuning and the presence of a Stereo modulated carrier. To describe the distortion and noise free performance of  this tuner is virtually impossible.

High-Power Drive Capability
Although the average power output required for normal living-room listening sistuations is only a few watts, musical peaks can demand much higher outputs for brief periods. If the required power is not available, the music loses its dynamic vitality, sounding flat and dull. In this respect many amplifiers perform well when connected to 8 Ω speakers, but faced with 6 Ω or 4 Ω loads - far more common than 8 Ω speakers in the real world - they lose the ability to deliver that all-important musical punch and impact.
Although they have different maximum power outputs, TEAC integrated amplifiers deliver outstanding dynamics power performance. All four models feature "over-designed" power supplies with heavy-duty shielded power transformers - the A-BX10 utilizes a toroidal transformer - and large capacitors, plus parallel-connected output-stage power transistors. They will respond to the demands of the most dynamic music without a trace of strain even when driving low-impedance loads.

Straightforward Circuit Configuration.
In an audio amplifier greater sophistication is not the way to achieve better sound quality. Each and every electronic part has some affect on the sound, and the sum total can mean degraded performance. While it is relatively easy to achieve mediocre. Performance with complex electronics, it is actually much more difficult to design and build the kind of straightforward circuitry needed to deliver pure transparent sound TEAC integrated amplifiers prove that it can be done. Careful design coupled with painstaking parts selection and layout bring you an audible sound-quality advantage.

Fully Balanced Circuit Configuration
Another significant TEAC amplifier design concept is the fully balanced circuit configuration, used in the A-BX10 amplifier. The unbalanced analog signal is instantly converted to a balanced signal in which the signal appears as the difference between two identical amplifier circuits. This is contrary to the unbalanced configuration where one amplifier circuit has the ground plane as its reference. The balanced configuration cancels out power supply noise and hum fieelds. Most importantly however, the ground plane only acts as the DC reference for the output stage and is not included in the signal path.

Inside the A-BX10
Source selection is achieved by electronically controlled relays placed close to the input terminals at the rear panel. The volume potentiometer is placed just behind the relays. This configuration gives an extremely short signal path. Furthermore,, the main PCB is of the double layer type, where the second layer is mainly used to shield the sensitive low level inputs , so called "Ground Plane"

Low NFB Circuit Configuration
It is commonly known that low overall feedback offers better stability and more dynamic sound than high feedback, although the distortion level will be higher. TEAC has chosen to design the amplifier circuits with very low overall feedback and to limit the distortion through a number of local feedback and distortion canceling techniques. The input stage is built using FETs with a voltage gain of only two times and hih common mode rejection. For the large voltage amplifier cell, an enhanced cascode with very low distortion is used. In the output stage, uneven distortion is reduced by lowering the non-feedback output impedance. Finally, the balanced output stage cancels out the even-harmonic distortion. The is an amplifier with both low feedback and low distortion.

Sansui AU-217

 Clean, Low-Distortion Power
The AU-217 delivers 30 watts per channel min. RMS, both channels driven, into 8 ohms from 20 to 20,000 Hz, with no more than 0,06% total harmonic distortion. 
Circuit configuration in the AU-217 is a differential input with constant current source, followed by a current differential push-pull driver and, finally, a Darlington-arranged power output.  In the driver circuit,  the AU-217, which  is a Sansui exclusive, the advantages include low open-loop distortion and stability against voltage and thermal changes. The Darlington-arranged power output used in both the AU-217 has a low output impedance and features low distortion.

Rated Watts Available on Demand
As mentioned, Sansui uses musical inputs not only steady-state test signals, to test the AU prototypes. Design refinements are made after repeate auditions to ensure musicality. While your own ears can cartainly tell the difference, you might like to know that we have improved the sound by lowering TIM (Transient Intermodulation) distortion, reducing crosstalk and giving the Aus excellent transient response.
As a result, the rated watts on  AU-217  - 30 watts  - are guaranteed to be fully available on demand. What all this means can be understood by the following illustration.
Suppose there's a competitive amp with 30 watts RMS power which has the same specifications as does the AU-217. set the volume controls on at both amps at maximum position, feed both amps with a clipping level signal. A connected oscilloscopewill show clipped waveforms from both amps. Yetwhen a heavily modulated musical signal is applied, the AU-217 still sounds clean and clear, while the rival amp sounds distorted and harsh.  The reasons lie in the fact that the former has far rediced transient intermodulation distortion than the latter.
 Versatile Preamp Section
Precision Phono Equalizer
One of the most critical tasks required of a phono equalizer is precision. If phono signals are "colored" in the equalizer, no tone controls or other devices can ever restore tham to proper "flat" response. This is why we've used only the finest available  parts to give the phono equalizers in the AU-217  the ability to stay within ±0,5 of the RIAA equalization curve over the entire 30 to 15,000 Hz spectrum.
This model use PNO transistor inputs followed by a low-noise NPN transistor direct-coupled amp.fed with dual voltages from the power supply. High overload of 180 mV for the AU-217,  together with accurate RIAA equalization, let you enjoy dynamic unclipped record reproduction even at full power operation.
Bass/Treble NF Controls
The tone control circuit inn the AU-217  is located in the NF (Negative Feedback) network of the elaborate low-distortion power amp. This configuration features low distortion and high signal to noise, because all inputs - Aux, Tuner and Tape  - are sent direct to the power amp, (Phono equalizer output also goes direct to the power amp)
The Bass/Treble controls themselves have click stops for smooth and accurate use. Bass has a range of ±12 dB at 50 Hz Treble is ±11 dB at 15 kHz.

Effective High and Subsonic Filters
Scratchy records, hiss noise from tapes and any other high frequency noise is eliminated effectively without harming musical content since the High Filter on all this new AU models feature a sharp cut-off response of -6 dB/oct with a 3 dB attenuation at 7 kHz. If your phono cartridge has a high "Q" factor or resonance in the low frequencies, or if you want to play warped records without causing subsonic intermodulation, use the Subsonic Filter on the AU-217.

Loudness Switch
The human hearing mechanism becomes insensitive to the high and low ends of the audible spectrum as the level or volume of a sound decreases.  When listening to music at low levels switch in the Loudness circuit on your AU it boosts the lows and highs just enough to restore flat reproduction across the entire frequency range
Rugged Power Supply
Large transformers and electrolytic capacitors form the newly-designed power supplies in both models. The capacitors in the AU-217 are each 6,800 µF. These powerful supplies are located as far as possible from the phono equalizers to avoid hum pickup and assure accurate reproduction of musical input.

We've retained the pre-amp and power-amp sections that exclusively feature discrete components - not a single IC in sight of the signal path. The PM6006 is upgraded for peak current at the amplifier stage, which makes it possible to refine the sound for you in much more detail.
You can connect this superb integrated amplifier directly to a vast range of digital sources and use its superior 24bit/192kHz high current CS4398 DAC to create an unbelievably high level of audio enjoyment with new media. The unit now includes 2 optical and 1 coaxial digital inputs (an additional optical input from the predecessor, PM6005), and the complete digital section is fully shielded by an extra metal housing to ensure that the digital stage has no effect on the analog signal.

Robust Cabinets

This bracing greatly reduces cabinet vibration, which causes unwanted coloration to the sound. ELAC believes that the only parts of a speaker that should be moving are the speaker drivers themselves.
