What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Toshiba SA-7150

The Toshiba 7150 locks into the center of any station's assigned broadcast frequency and eliminates drift.

A few yearas ago, Toshiba introduced and marketed the first fully electronic digital-synthesized tuner. Now Toshiba has another first. We've built a digital-synthesized tuner into a high-powered, low-distortion FM/AM receiver; the Toshiba 7150 with Synthetune™
Synthetune is a function that provides tuning so accurate even a center tuning meter is unnecessary.
Drift is eliminated.
The 7150's FM tuner section also contains flat group delay IF circuitry. And a quartz crystal oscillator, which automatically locks into the center of any station's assigned broadcast frequency - as precisely as the station's own transmitter.

Tune the 7150 just by pushing the auto-scan button. It scans the full range of the  AM or FM band, stopping precisely at each listenable station. Bright green LED numerals instantly display all frequencies as they are tuned. Of course, there's more to the 7150 than Synthetune. It also has separate transformers for class A and class B amplifier sections. The toroidal transformer for class B amplification has separate left and right power supplies.
It also has Dolby FM and an air check switch for accurate tape recording. Furthermore the 7150 delivers a minimum of 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz , with no more than 0,05% Total Harmonic Distortion. And the restof the specs are just as impressive.

Luxman K-112 tape deck

The K-112 is a three-head, double Dolby configuration that allows monitoring of the "just-recorded" signal, while the recording is belong made. This  cassette deck is specially designed with a superb "single-direction" transport to ensure professional-grade recording.
This 3-head stereo cassette deck utilizes the latest in refined technological features. Some are as follows:  Hard Hexalam permalloy 3-head system; two motors; Dolby HX-Pro; Dolby B and C; feather touch full logic transport controls; four digit electronic  tape counter with memory; fine Bias control; Luxman System remote control capability, and more.

Hard hexalam permalloy 3-Head full monitoring configuration
The hard anti-wear surface, plus the laminated hexalam low eddy current core, give high unsaturated recording levels coupled with low loss, long life performance. In addition, the Hexalam designm coupled with OFC windings inn the R/P head, result in linear current flow and uniform magnetic flux inn the gap for purest sonic quality. Of course, 3 head allow full tape monitoring capabilities.
Two Motor Drive System
Separate capstan and reel drive motors ensure lowest possible wow and flutter, particularly over the long term. Variations in cassette friction or reel drive irregularities, have no effect on the precision of capstan rotation.
Dolby HX-PRO
This headroom extension system, developed for professional applications, greatly increases high frequency headroom for wide range dynamics without saturation. Operating in the record mode only, it automatically reduces bias in the presence of high level high frequency program material, while simultaneously, and automatically, adjusting the E.Q. dynamically to provide precise even frequency response. High frequency distortion is thereby greatly reduced and is especially effective when using normal (Fe) and high bias ( Co, CrO₂) tapes.
Fine Bias Control
Allows precise adjustment of tape bias for optimization of frequency response. Such adjustment permits one to compensate for variations in tape formulations when using different tape brands or for production variations within the same brands. It is especially useful with the 3 head system.
4-Digit Electronic Counter with Memory
While functioning in the same manner as a mechanical counter, this electronic counter offers more precision while completely eliminating the drive and wear problems of mechanical counters.
Low velocity Tape Head Engagement System
This motor driven cam engagement mechanis, smoothly pulls up the head assembly at low velocity to engage the tape cassette. This eliminates the hard jar and slap of solenoid systems, thus preventing the loosening or distortion of precision head alignments.
Feather Touch Full Logic Transport Controls
Transport control push-buttons, requiring only a light press, activate the computer controlled logic system for instant response of the transport to operator commands.
System Remote Control Capability
When used with Luxman's system remote control centers or receivers, such as the U-100, F-105, R-115, R-117, etc., the K-112 can be operated romotely, along with other Luxman components in the system, with one unified hand held remote controller.

JVC JA-S41

With th enew integrated stereo amplifier, JVC introduces the new circuit design in the often-negleted power supply of an amplifier. Adding no extra cost, our design improves dynamic characteristics of the amp, reduces distortion and increases power dynamics at one-channel driving.
The JA-S41 is the first of JVC's new line of amplifiers incorporating twin power supplies, one for the Class-A operated preamplifier circuits (phono equalizer, tone control circuit and predriver circuit) and the other for the Class-B operated power-amplifier circuit. JVC technology has at last perfected a way to solve the so-called "dynamic crosstalk distortion"  problem. Pulsive and transient signals applied to the power amplifier cause no tonal degradation, i.e. no loss of definition, no increase in distortion and no lack of brilliance.

Yet in caomparison with competititors' integrated amps using two separate power supplies, one for each channel, our new technology adds very little to cost but nevertheless performs better, reducing "soft" distortion and increasing power when only one channel is driven.
You'll know the JVC difference when you hear it; A/B between the JA-S41 and other similarly-prieced models. Add such features as a big 60-watts per channel power, ICL phono equalizer, twin-pot volume control and front-panel tape terminals and the all-new JVC JA-S41 is a truly sophisticated hi-fi amplifier.

Harbeth HL-P3ES-2

It is an axiom of speaker design that the smaller the cabinet, the more challenging the task, and when the cabinet is little bigger than a shoe box, the engineering challenges are very considerable indeed. But Harbeth are renowned for sound quality, so it’s no surprise that the Harbeth HL-P3ES-2 is indeed a most remarkable loudspeaker. Packed with enough engineering to convince the most discerning audiophile that he’s listening to the full bandwidth sound, the P3ES takes pride of place in any hi-fi or AV system.

Extensively proven in studios, outside broadcast and at home, this marvellous miniature speaker is the direct descendent of the engineering behind the Harbeth BBC LS3/5a. Cabinet construction, panel damping and response shaping are all the products of critical analysis and much tuning. Instantly recognisable for their ‘Harbeth house sound’ and occupying so little space, the HL-P3ES-2 makes possible the enjoyment of really high quality sound in locations where space is at a real premium.

Although the HL P3ES-2 is the smallest Harbeth, it inherits the SuperTunedStructure™SuperGrille™ and design philosophy from its bigger brothers. Taken together, this explains the commonality of sound - as it should be and quite independent of size, across the Harbeth range. The rest is due to our experience of live sound in the studio and concert hall and the ability to turn that into a satisfying sound at home.
